So you want to have a go at paddle boarding, but you don’t know where to start? Fear not, we’re here to help!
With the massive growth in the sport over the past couple of years we’ve seen huge numbers of new people discovering the joys of paddle boarding. Wherever you go in the UK now, you’ll see people out on the water paddling.
For a new person just starting out their SUP journey it can be quite daunting. There’s masses of information on the internet and it can be quite overwhelming. Here at Oxford SUP Club we’re here to make your journey into SUP a safe, exciting and enjoyable experience.
As Oxford’s original SUP School we’ve got years of experience coaching beginners, and have introduced thousands of happy paddlers to this wonderful sport.
So where do you start? The best advice we can give anyone when looking to have a go at paddle boarding is to GET A LESSON! Whether you’re at the beach on holiday, or looking to explore the rivers and canals near where you live, getting a lesson is the safest way to get started.
We’re a BSUPA recognised SUP School and we operate their tried and tested training programme. The British Stand Up Paddle Association has been developing the sport of SUP since 2007, and has a network of over 100 recognised schools across the UK.
We offer a wide range of SUP Lessons from our base at Farmoor Reservoir, with everything from 1 hour Taster Lessons for complete beginners, to a 2 hour Ready to Ride lesson for people looking for a more challenging experience, and intermediate lessons for more experienced paddlers with our half day Ready to Tour course.
By taking a lesson you’ll gain all of the basic skills that will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to go out and paddle on your own, or with friends and family.
With all of our lessons you’ll be on the water with one of our fully qualified SUP instructors, who will be there to coach you at your own pace, with patience and understanding. Our fantastic team are hand picked for their experience and brilliant abilities to bring this sport alive with their passion and enthusiasm.
We only use top quality equipment for all of our SUP lessons, with boards and paddles from market leaders Starboard and Red Paddle Co.
Once you’ve had your lesson, and got the bug for SUP, you might want to think about joining our amazing SUP community here in Oxford. SUP Club Membership gives you access to social paddling, river tours, private coaching, race training, SUP yoga and SUP fitness, our cosy Clubhouse and a huge range of fantastic equipment.
